Current Role at StanfordPauline Becker is the Technical Project Manager at EdTech in the department of Information, Resources & Technology (IRT). Her primary responsibilities include: * managing the design, implementation and maintenance of the MediaFlow system, the school of medicine's video capture system * coordinating the Stanford Medicine Interactive Learning Initiative (SMILI: http://smili.stanford.edu), an inter-disciplinary and cross-institutional steering committee for school of medicine online learning activities * overseeing the Surgery Septris project, a project to create an education game for surgical decision making, based on the existing game Septris, for treatment of sepsis Pauline Becker has been an active member of the Stanford community for 19 years. She has an undergraduate degree in Human Biology (1998) and a masters in Learning, Design and Technology (1999). In 1998, she received the Albert H. Hastorf Award for Outstanding Service for excellence in teaching, from the Program in Human Biology. She has worked in industry as a quality assurance engineer and online community manager (Macromedia, 1999-2002). Since then she was a program manager at SUMMIT (Stanford University Medical Media & Information Technologies), where in partnership with PATH (a nonprofit international health organization) she headed the technical and educational design side of the AIM e-Learning project, dedicated to delivering online content to national health policy makers. In her work for AIM e-Learning, Becker traveled to India, Uganda, Thailand, WHO Geneva and CDC Atlanta, where between designing and implementing appropriate technologies to deliver educational content, she conducted training sessions, usability studies and user needs surveys. She was introduced to the major issues and players in international health, in discussions with global partners and in-country staff. At Stanford, Becker worked with medical students to develop the new course Rethinking International Health. The course uses online interviews of important figures in international health as a springboard for discussion of the major issues. Becker also worked with PATH and the World Health Organization in the redesign of a WHO computer-based tool for measles strategic planning. Becker's research interests include the use of simulations and "serious games" (games for learning) in medical and health education. Her work on AIM e-Learning and the use of Web-based patient simulators for assessment in medical education has been published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. She is fluent in conversational French and enjoys entertaining.

Current Role at StanfordJoe Benfield is an Instructional Technologist in EdTech, IRT for the Stanford University School of Medicine. He supports a wide range of educational technology operations, projects, and initiatives in support of teaching, learning, and research. Joe joined the School of Medicine in 2010 to assist in the launch of the school's state-of-the-art educational facility, the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge. He has also played a primary role in supporting the school's mobile initiative, which included collaborations with the Dean's office, Faculty, medical students, Lane Library, physicians at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, and colleagues within IRT to explore the use of tablet technologies in the medical curriculum. In the Summer of 2011, he began piloting support for online/hybrid learning, and has since worked to build IRT's operational capacity and expertise in support of the Stanford Medicine Interactive Learning Initiatives (SMILI). This work has involved collaborations both in and outside of SOM, including hybrid approaches to undergraduate medical education, online courses for continuing medical education, online materials for residents and fellows, instructional videos for Khan Academy, educational technology projects with Kigali Medical University, in Gitwe, Rwanda, and MOOCs on Coursera, Class 2 Go, and Venture Lab. Joe also supports classroom technology, Coursework (Sakai), and the LKSC's lecture capture system, Mediaflow.

Current Role at StanfordAs a senior UI/UX designer and information architect with Lane Medical Library, I design and develop UI, information architecture, and new features for the Lane main website (http://lane.stanford.edu). I oversee a number of projects related to the main Lane site as well as a number of subsites, lead our website updates, and also advise library staff on best user practices. As part of managing these projects, I work with a range of Lane staff members, assigning resources, developing work structures, tracking completion, and handling exceptions and obstacles as quickly as possible. I am responsible for various library print publications from liaisons' handouts to oversized posters and Lane exhibits. I work closely with Lane and IRT staff and help maintain School of Medicine and Stanford University brand standards.

Our team consists of a high-level, specialized group of individuals. We support over 5 buildings, maintain over 300 computers, and manage over 8,000 pieces of audio-video technology. In addition to the learning spaces, we maintain the MediaFlow Core System which delivers over 10,000 hours of content per year to our medical students. The AV Technology department also maintains a groundbreaking Simulation Center.
