Research InterestDr. Banerjee is the Director of Endoscopy at the Stanford University Medical Center. His research interests include evaluation of advanced endoscopic procedures (ERCP, choledochoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound) in the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant pancreatic and biliary disease. Additional interests include the development of new endoscopic devices and instruments.

Research InterestDr. Chen's research focus includes various advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures with focus on premalignant and malignant gastrointestinal diseases. Specifically, she is interested in early detection and treatment of pancreatic-biliary and gastrointestinal diseases utilizing interventional procedures such as endoscopic ultrasound, radiofrequency and cryoablation therapy, confocal microscopy, and small bowel enteroscopy.

Research InterestDr. Cheung's research interests focus on liver diseases, with emphasis on viral hepatitis. His past research include investigating the mechanism of viral neutralization of hepatitis B virus at the molecular level and immune response to hepatitis C virus. Dr. Cheung is studing various aspects of hepatitis C, both clinical and translational research.

In the past this was focused on laboratory studies but currently involves human studies as part of my patient care responsibilities. In particular I am interested in the role of NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) in patients with Hepatitis C aand in post liver transplant patients.

Research InterestDr. Gerson's clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, esophageal motility disorders, and obscure GI bleeding using capsule endoscpy and double balloon enteroscopy. Her research interests include epidemiology and clinical trials in GERD and Barrett's esophagus; cost-effectiveness studies in the areas of Barrett's esophagus and new technology; and quality of life assessment for patients with GERD and BE.

Research InterestPancreatic and esophageal cancers are common and deadly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. Our laboratory is currently focused on the characterization of genes important in tumor development and growth. Such genes will potentially serve as therapeutic targets. An additional focus of the laboratory is the development of diagnostic assays for the early detection of pancreatic and esophageal disease.
