  Research Interest

  My research describes and studies health inequalities and disparities experienced by children with special health care needs. My past work was focused on pediatric health in ethnic communities, Vietnamese and Latino/Hispanic. My current research investigates the differential outcomes of in patients with cystic fibrosis, specifically looking at genotype, ethnicity/race, and environmental exposures.

  Research Interest

  I am interested in studying the effects of inflammation in the lung, in particular, how N-acetylcysteine may affect and decrease that in CF patients. I am the PI of a multi-center study researching this question. Additionally, in a separate study involving children who have received lung transplants, I am a participating site in an NIH-sponsored observational and mechanistic multi-center study that will examine the role of viral infections in causing chronic graft rejection.

  My research interests have centered on the inflammatory responses that lead to airway disease in Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and the metabolic factors that contribute to CF lung disease progression. Current efforts are focused on the understanding of the early events that drive the development of lung disease through the study of infants with CF identified by newborn screening. This includes the development of new diagnostic tools that permit the early detection of lung disease manifestations.

  Immunopathogenesis of chronic airways diseases of childhood, including cystic fibrosis, asthma, allergic aspergillosis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Translational research: early clinical trials in airways disease of childhood, most notably CF, including gene, cytokine and drug therapy.

  My research interests focus on detection of early and progressive Cystic fibrosis (CF) structural lung disease by utilizing chest CT imaging and CT post-processing methodology. Current research efforts involve utilization of low dose infant & children CT imaging protocols and quantitative airway and air trapping algorithms to evaluate early and progressive CF disease.
