  My research is focused on disorders of human feeding including the eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Ongoing or recently completed studies include: A controlled trial of the implementation of interpersonal psychotherapy for eating disorders and depression on college campuses across the U.S. A multisite controlled study of two types of family therapy for the treatment of adolescent anorexia nervosa. Early prevemtion of overweight and obesity.

  I am interested in establishing evidenced based interventions for neurobehavioral disorders. I currently work in the Psychosocial, Anxiety, and Neuropsychiatry outpatient clinics and direct a monthly Neurobehavioral Clinic. I am focused on the development of nonpharmacological interventions for neuropsychiatric illnesses. My current work is investigating the application and efficacy of dialectical behavior therapy for conversion disorder.

  Dr. Hendriksen’s research develops and tests cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions to reduce distress and improve quality of life in patients with chronic illness, including HIV and cancer. Her current project aims to develop a brief CBT intervention to reduce anxiety in patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer and their informal family caregivers. Clinically, Dr. Hendriksen treats mood and anxiety disorders, particularly in patients with chronic medical illness.

  Current research centers on the use of human genetic haploid systems, e.g. the Y chromosome, to understand the prehistory of human migrations particularly since the Holocene. This work includes investigating correlations with human symbolic material culture, focusing on the visual artistic realm. Also being explored are the issues and ethical implications of the social construction of race and ethnicity vis a vis the enhanced capacity to differentiate populations using genotypes.

  My current research interests include investigation into the nature and treatment of eating disorders. In particular, the development and dissemination of guided self-help treatments for eating disorders and the role emotion dysregulation plays in the etiology and maintenance of disordered eating behaviors. In 2010, I received a Mentored Patient-Oriented Career Development Award from NIH whose primary aim is to compare the efficacy of two guided self-help treatments for binge eating disorder.
