Johanna (Jolien) Sweere
Ph.D. Student in Immunology, admitted Autumn 2012
Bio Jolien Sweere is a PhD candidate in Stanford University’s Program in Immunology. Her work currently focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanism behind the immune suppression observed in chronic biofilm infections of the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Jolien uses flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, gene expression analysis and other techniques to investigate how individual biofilm components work together to suppress dendritic cell activation and antigen presentation. The ultimate goal of her research is to explore and develop therapeutic strategies to disrupt this biofilm-mediated immune inhibition.
