Postdoctoral Research fellow, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Current Research and Scholarly Interests I received my PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2013.July at the Network of Excellence for Functional Biomaterials (NFB), National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), under the supervision of Dr Wenxin Wang (NFB), Dr Yolanda Garcia (NUIG) and Prof Abhay Pandit (NFB). My PhD thesis was based on injectable hydrogel system development and stem cell therapy for wound healing. I also worked on multidisciplinary projects involved in non-viral polymeric gene transfection vectors; minicircle DNA vectors development and application; and PEG-based polymeric hollow nanospheres for drug delivery.

After my PhD study, my research focuses on developing and optimizing the injectable hydrogel for stem cell delivery, interested on manipulating the 3D hydrogel microenvironment affecting the stem cell fate and behaviours. More recently, I started my exchange postdoctoral fellowship between Stanford University Medical School (United States) and University College Dublin (Ireland), funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC), to develop a stem cell skin substitute for the treatment of the diabetic foot ulcers.

    Research Interests:
    - Functional polymers for tissue engineering and 3D printing
    - Natural biomaterials (e.g. collagen, hyaluronic acid, fibrinogen) for tissue engineering
    - Thermo-responsive polymers and injectable hydrogels
    - Hyperbranched and dendritic polymer for non-virus gene delivery
    - Minicircle DNA vector construction for gene therapy
    - Stem cell therapy for wound healing
