Current Research and Scholarly Interests Our research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie retinal diseases, e.g. diabetic retinopathy, and retinal development, via dissection of gene regulatory networks. We are interested in uncovering how different types of retinal cells, including retinal neurons, glia and the vasculature, respond to disease insults and developmental cues at the epigenomic and transcriptional levels, and how they interact act with each other and collectively contribute to the integrity of the retina. We also develop novel methods and techniques that allow for rapid and efficient genetic manipulations in the retina in vivo in animal models.
