Current Research and Scholarly Interests My role in research is to apply novel advances in tissue engineering and microsurgery to the clinical problems of hand trauma, peripheral nerve injuries, and congenital hand problems. I am interested in developing new tissues and techniques that will allow optimal reconstruction of form and function to those patients requiring reconstructive surgery.

Current Research and Scholarly Interests I received my PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2013.July at the Network of Excellence for Functional Biomaterials (NFB), National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), under the supervision of Dr Wenxin Wang (NFB), Dr Yolanda Garcia (NUIG) and Prof Abhay Pandit (NFB). My PhD thesis was based on injectable hydrogel system development and stem cell therapy for wound healing. I also worked on multidisciplinary projects involved in non-viral polymeric gene transfection vectors; minicircle DNA vectors development and application; and PEG-based polymeric hollow nanospheres for drug delivery.
After my PhD study, my research focuses on developing and optimizing the injectable hydrogel for stem cell delivery, interested on manipulating the 3D hydrogel microenvironment affecting the stem cell fate and behaviours. More recently, I started my exchange postdoctoral fellowship between Stanford University Medical School (United States) and University College Dublin (Ireland), funded by the Irish Research Council (IRC), to develop a stem cell skin substitute for the treatment of the diabetic foot ulcers.

Current Research and Scholarly Interests During the last five years, we have identified several small molecules that kill VHL deficient renal cancer cells through a synthetic lethal screening approach. Another major interest of my laboratory is in identifying hypoxia-induced genes involved in invasion and metastases. We are also investigating how hypoxia regulates gene expression epigenetically.
